Garden Pest Control

Garden Pest control is very important. This is because no matter how well a garden is tended, there will be various pests and other insects that will come into the garden and some can eventually destroy your plants. When performing pest control, care must be taken to guard against poisoning important insects, animals and even humans. This can be done by carefully analyzing the type of insecticides and pesticides that are purchased. Pesticides are especially used when planting vegetables and that is why caution should be exercised. Any method you use to control pests should be environmentally friendly.

One of the best methods of garden pest control is the physical traditional way. This is by using hands and a simple rake. Thos method does take time and effort and involves donning on a pair of gardening gloves and examining the plants and flowers for any visible pests. Pests such as snails are fond of rock crevices and damp places such as those at the base of plants with foliage which is strap-like. These can cause damage to leaves. Some snails are also pest–resistant so physical pest control is ideal.

Biological control is more also a very popular method. This is because you are using nature’s own elements to keep your garden pest free. This kind of biological control involves breeding a host of predatory insects that feed on other insects which damage your garden. For instance, the dragonfly feeds on aphids which attack and destroy garden plants. Breeding these insects is not a big challenge. Simply place some water in a shallow bowl in the garden foliage and dragonflies will narrow down on that particular area of your garden and within no time at all their population will increase depending on the availability of aphids in the garden. Caterpillars are also a huge pest in the garden and can cause a lot of leaf damage. Bacterial insecticides such as thuringiesis can devour caterpillars and rid your garden of this havoc.

The above methods are the most favored and also the best as far as being environmentally friendly. They are cheap and no chemicals are released into the ecosystem. The last resort would be to use chemical pesticides. Chemical pesticides can be purchased at any store that deals with gardening or even large supermarkets. Technology has gone a long way in ensuring that these are safe. This is because the Federal Government’s Department of Agriculture regulates the chemicals that must be used in the manufacture of pesticides.
