Garden Spades & Forks

There are many uses for garden spades - The most obvious that springs to mind is to dig up your garden, but did you know that it is also used for the 'finishing off' - the patting down of soil after your planting is all done. As I am sure you are aware a garden spade has a long handle and a heavy flat blade. A fork on the other hand has a long handle but is finished with between 3 and 6 prongs - They are used for separating, lifting and throwing soil, leaves and other debris that maybe located in your soil.
To many gardeners both a spade and a fork are basic requirements when it comes to keeping a garden in tip top shape.

Stainless steel forks and spades

These are recommended as they help to reduce soil attachment  - helping to make your digging effortless! As described above, you usually find that the whole tool is made out of one piece of steel, making it hardened to any vigorous digging you may need to undertake!

Shorter length fork and spade

Useful for small gardens, window boxes, planters and other confined spaces - They are usually made exactly the same as the 'full size' versions however are much lighter and are ideal for users that struggle with the full length, much heavier versions.

Long-handled
round point shovel

More popular in Europe, its is used by many construction works for digging holes and shovelling  - This is ideal if you want to dig deep holes without bending over. Very sturdy and perfect for users with back problems.

.
Longest handled hand fork

As the name suggests, this has an extremely long handle - Used the same as the traditional garden fork however it does not need to be pushed into the soil using feet. These can often come with add on handles and arm supports for extra control and ideal for one-armed users.

Midi Spork

Again, this tool is perfect for wheelchair users - This one of a kind tool is a combination of the fork and the spade. The design of it allows you the ability to move more soil than a traditional hand fork.

If you follow a few simple rules and prepare well your garden will be a triumph.
